How to attract crowds in winter to a Central City Parkland destination?

Brisbane is a City of 3 million people and South Bank is the prime central city location that in summer hosts thousands of visitors with its swimming pools, lagoons and artificial beach.

But in winter the drawcard of the city beach is not as popular and an alternative attraction was needed to bring people to the Parklands who could fill their carparks and consume food and beverages a their tenants extensive hospitality outlets.

The Snow4kids event was operated in the open air 1000m2 Piazza Building at South bank Parklands with winter temperatures averaging around 18 degrees celsius during operation.

Two Bucceri Snowfall Units were installed and operated automatically to create over  1000 cubic metres of snow over 2 weeks.

Young Children and their families now had the opportunity to experience a true snow experience in the heart of the City which is something that is not possible to many of them due to the cost and distances of travelling to the Australian ski resorts.

Between the years of 2013 and 2020, thousands of families flocked to South Bank to enjoy snow activities such as tobboganing, snowman buliding, snowball throwing, falling snow and other fun snow activities.

The flow on effect was immediate with South Bank’s car parks being heavily used by the Snow4kids patrons and the local restaurants and cafes hosting Snow4kids customer of customers during the winter period of operation.
